Proteaceae
This large family of plants from the Southern Hemisphere includes Adenanthos, Banksia, Grevillea, Leucadendron, Leucospermum, Protea, and Stenocarpus among many others. Beloved by hummingbirds and cut flower enthusiasts, you will notice them blooming in gardens around town at this time of year. If you can provide full sun, excellent drainage and mild winters, these are worth a try. Look for them in our Dry Ideas Section!
Anemone hybrida
The Japanese Anemone announces the arrival of fall. These long-lived (sometimes invasive) perennials provide their floral display on cue during these months. Part shade is best, and with regular water you will almost surely have tall cutting flowers until frost. White, pink, lavender and various shades thereof.
Azaleas
Most are grown by our friends at Nuccio’s Nursery in Altadena, and they are always top quality! And for you bonsai enthusiasts, I was also able to acquire a batch of Satsuki Azaleas from Log Cabin Nursery! Many other representatives from the groups Kurume, Southern Indica, Belgian Indica, and Hybrids can be found under our shade structure.
Japanese Maples
A small forest of Japanese Maples (mostly Acer palmatum cultivars) has just arrived from Oregon, including weeping, upright, and spreading varieties, many suitable for growing in containers. The trees are just beginning to show dozens of their famous fall colors. Stop by for the show!
Rhododendrons
For many years, Rhododendrons have been a staple here at the nursery. This year we are offering, perhaps, the largest selection of Rhodies in the Bay Area! You can choose from over 100 hybrids & several rare species, from or friends at Log Cabin Nursery in Springfield, Oregon.
Camellias
It is a pleasure to work with the Nuccio family, and their plants are always top-notch quality. From the stalwart japonicas and sasanquas to the fancy hybrids, their introductions and offerings are a blessing to CA gardeners.
