Berkeley Hort Celebrates 90 years!

In 1922 George Budgen realized his dream to grow and supply his favorite plants to California gardeners, and ‘Berkeley Hort’ was born. During these early years the Nursery adopted the advertising slogan:

“It’s not a home until it’s planted.”

Celebrate with us as the fourth generation continues in his footsteps.

Berkeley Horticultural Nursery is the subject for two new posters by local graphic artist Helen Krayenhoff. Each is beautifully illustrated and captioned with plants that represent something special to us. Printed on 100% recycled paper, and measuring 7.25 X 34 inches they make a wonderful addition to a wall in the home of any garden enthusiast.

Plant this year round flowering mix and create an ideal habitat for beneficial insects in your garden as most feed on nectar as well as insects.

Planting Instructions: Sow seeds directly in a sunny, undisturbed location in the fall or in spring before the hot weather arrives. Water regularly. Blooms begin 45-90 days after planting and will continue for years.

The seed packet contains: Crimson Clover, Red Clover, Nungarin Subclover, Yellow Sweet Clover, Hykon Rose Clover, White Clover, Semi & Non Dormant Alfalfa, Coriander, Daikon Radish, Dill, Red Radish, Carrot, Calendula, and .5% of California Buckwheat, Baby's Breath, Sweet Alyssum, White Yarrow, Caraway, Celery, Chervil, Fennel, and Parsley (contents may vary).

This seed is coated with Nitro-Coat Organic. This coating uses all organic ingredients: the proper rhizobacteria, a Calcium Carbonate coating that is naturally water absorbing to speed seed germination, and an Organic Materials Review Institute (OMRI) listed organic adhesive.
